Hemmingford Elementary School has been doing funky and fun stuff in the past few months. Pre-k, Kindergarten and grade one visited the Insectarium. Grade 1 also spent the day with a snake but don’t worry, it stayed in its cage! Grades 2/3 did research on animals and presented it to their class. Grades 4/5 are having a poetry café after school in June. They will be reciting a poem of their choice as well as one of their own. Grade 6 have been on many field trips such as Mont VR, Lazer Tag, Subway, and the Grade six orientation at CVR. They also met their future classmates at CVR for a time of games and getting to know you. The Grades 5 and 6 had a most interesting visit to the Electrium, and Hydro Quebec as part of their science program. The two classes also enjoyed watching the talented students of CVR present the play, “Frozen”.
The playground at HES has also seen some new things happening. Thank you to Natalie for painting the four-square where many students are having fun. There is also a new four section volleyball net and punching bags for students to keep busy at recess.
On June 7, the annual Fête de la Pêche is taking place. Fourteen students will be picked from a draw to attend this event (two from each grade level). Lunch is graciously provided by the Club de Chasse et Pêche des Frontières1985. Good luck to all on catching the big one!
The final sports event was track and field for grades 4, 5, and 6 on May 30. Students participated against other schools in running, high jump, long jump, and many other events.
As the school year comes to a close, we want to thank Ms. Shaw and all the staff for everything they have done for us over the past year. We hope they, and all students, have a great summer!
